Seven Dachshunds ago Leesa and Nilza (the organisers of Dachshtober Longdog Festival) met at a dance class and hit it off. Soon after, Nilza's hubby surprised her with their first baby doxie. Tilly, a gorgeous Black and tan miniature dachshund who has the most beautiful personality. It was then that the pandemic took over and Tilly had her Mumma at home with her 24/7. As all Dachie lovers know this posed a problem once we were out of lock down, and the anxiety for her kicked in. The only way to fix it was to get her a baby. So, next comes Maizie. A very active shaded, red mini. And together there was no more anxiety.
Meanwhile, Leesa, also having loved the breed for so long had just suffered losing her much loved German Shepherd, but knew that she wanted another, smaller companion. Enter Frank, the very handsome, mischievous attention loving black and tan mini boy. Frank was then followed by Penny the most dainty and snuggly chocolate girl who was a surprise organised by Leesa's family for Mother's day.
It was around the same time Nilza's husband happened to come across a litter of 'ee' puppies. They were so exquisite and he knew he needed trek to Tamworth, to add a boy to the pack.
Dukie aka Marmaduke is the stockiest and most protective boy we've seen. With his green eyes and liver nose everyone falls in love, that's until he barks. He has that very protective Dachie behaviour and if you come near his girls or mumma he lets you know. He is however a big sook at heart.
So that's 5 between us. Where'd the other two come from?
Well years down the track Dukie and Tilly decided that they would have babies. After DNA testing we decided to let them have a litter. Six gorgeous puppies later, Nilza needed a chocolate to complete her rainbow pack and of course Leesa also fell in love. Nilza kept Maggie the sweetest choc and tan baby girl and Leesa got Molly the biggest attitude Choc and creme baby. (Much like her dad.)
One day Leesa came to Nilza and said, "Surely we can't be the only crazy dachshund mummas? Let's do a festival!"
So, with alot of research, and a goal of bringing people together with a common interest in our favourite breed Dachshtober Longdog Festival was born in 2022.
